Pumpkin Scones

Craving all things pumpkin but looking to avoid all of the sugar and fat of a PSL? Try these scones! They are dense, moist, and perfect for snacking or on-the-go breakfast.


  • 2 and 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling!)
  • 1/3 cup milk


  • Preheat oven to 400ΒΊ
  • Combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice, salt, and baking soda. Add in apple sauce until mixture resembles coarse crumbs
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, canned pumpkin, and milk. Add to the crumb mixture until moistened
  • Place the dough onto a floured surface and knead 10 times. Separate dough into 8 separate mounds on a greased baking sheet. Gently pat down each mound
  • Place in oven for 12-15 minutes
